The home stretch

These pictures are from Sunday. There was sun, then. And we were home, and happy, and lazy, and mostly living in our backyard.

Today there was some sun, finally. But also there were errands, and drop-offs and pick-ups and (almost missed) piano lessons, and a night-time school event (the first of several in this home stretch), and homework (why? Please, someone, tell me why?).

Sometimes Anna calls Tim "Tim". I know this is something all kids do at some point, but of course in our case, half of her sisters call Tim "Tim", and so she does it sometimes ironically (yes, four-year-old-irony...I meant it), and sometimes just because that's what everyone else around her is calling him.

I think. What do I know? How do I really know what's going on in that little brain of hers?

Anyway, tonight when we came home from "the thing", she was tucked in bed, and she was going through all of our names, for some reason which escapes me now.

A: ...and Callie, and Lindsey, and Tim...and Mommy.

Me: What's my name?

A: Mommy.

Me: Come on, you know my name! What does Daddy call me?

A: Um...uh...Honey?

Warms the cockles of my heart.

Even if she was just messing with me.

More tomorrow. Thanks for reading.

We're reading a book right now with a character named Kathleen, and every time I say her name, Tessa squeals with delight and says, "Kathleen?! I know a Kathleen!" There's something about the way my name sounds in her mouth... pure love and the inevitability of separation.
Good luck in the home stretch, honey :)

ah yes our four year old is calling his daddy by his first name. It is hilarious!!! Hubby worries it is because he is gone so often and the four year old is detaching - I just agree with you, it is all learning, trying.. who really knows

Our baby thinks my real name is Annie Monkey (which sounds sweeter in Swedish). It's one of the things my husband calls me and it's stuck with the kids as well. Wilhelm knows it's just a nick name, but Blanka has no clue. Which is very sweet. Especially at pre-school where the teaches finally had to ask what I was to be called, "I'm sorry, but is your real name Monkey (Apa)?"
